Our History

M.G. Thomas & Associates, Inc.
1989

Formed in 1989 to support Insurers and their representatives in understanding events, costs, repair scope, time to repair and cause related to major failures in power generation equipment. This support began solely on turbine and generator equipment, both steam and gas, in the power generation industry, but later grew to include axial flow compressors, large motors, transformers, wind turbines, hydro turbines and expanders in the petroleum, pulp and paper, and chemical industries. Its business model was to engage experienced subcontractors to support the additional work during busy times to assure proper handling of every need of Insurers.

1989
Mark Bremmer
2001

In 2001, Mark Bremmer of MA Bremmer and Associates, Inc., began handling some of the more difficult projects. Mark and his company brought in a sense of detail and knowledge on power generation equipment from his nuclear, project management and commissioning experience with Westinghouse.

2001
Bob Daniels
2009

In 2009, Bob Daniels of RE Daniels Consulting, Inc., began filling in with Mark, bringing a unique blend of practical experience on the equipment from his US Navy career, and a deep understanding of risk management and control during his employment with Hartford Steam Boiler and later with the AES Global Insurance Company. His credentials as an Authorized Boiler Inspector for those years added further available capability to the company to occasionally support losses related to boiler failures and water chemistry issues, which often affects steam turbines.

2009
Neal Grabow
2011

In 2011, Neal Grabow of N-Tec, Inc., agreed to work with Mike on projects while continuing the energy related work of his existing company.  He agreed to support the increasing number of losses that were occurring worldwide, while adding yet another very practical element from his days in the US Air Force.  With his experience at Hartford Steam Boiler as an Authorized Nuclear Inspector and work on rotating equipment assessments and failures, he provided a unique understanding of insurance issues pertinent to the energy claims process.

2011
Consolidation Planning
2015

By 2015, these companies were working closer together, requiring a decision to be made regarding business continuation and structure to support Insurers and their clients.  Mike began the process of long term business development by engaging legal and accounting specialists to begin establishing a Business Plan and Operating Agreement that would serve Insurers into the future without Mike being the only face of the company.

2015
Brian Glynn
2016

As plans for the new company were coming together, Brian Glynn of BKG Consulting, Inc., agreed to work with the others while the new business plan was being developed. In March of 2016, Brian started providing expertise in shop processes and repair capabilities.  His background as a Field Engineer for Westinghouse, followed by shop operations experience with TurboCare and Ethos Energy exponentially improved the efficiency in managing the volume of losses as an exceptional resource for the unique repair procedures available today.

2016
MGTA Group, LLC
2017

MGTA Group, LLC was formed on July 1, 2017 to bring together the cumulative experience and knowledge of the entire group into one by sharing ownership in the venture.  The decision to re-form the company into a single cohesive group provides an unimpeded step into the future and a succession planning foundation that offers the technical experience originated by Mike Thomas, expanded through our team, and expected by our clients.

2017
Anthony (TJ) Schulz
2020

By January 2020, the Group had continued its growth and were very fortunate to add TJ Schulz as an Associate. His addition brought expertise as a Siemens Field Engineer handling all technical aspects of Steam and Gas Turbine outage management. While with Siemens, he also specialized in Major Project Reconstruction worldwide, many being Insurance related. His ability to quickly understand and facilitate the complex project requirements was a great fit for the Group, well enough to be invited as a full Partner in January 2022.
